This codeswitching is not merely incidental but a strategic practice used to convey nuance, establish social identity, and negotiate interpersonal relationships. The informal, fast-paced environment of WhatsApp fosters an adaptive language use where speakers blend vocabulary, grammar, and idiomatic expressions to suit varying audiences and conversational settings. Statement of the problem

This gap limits our understanding of how digital environments shape multilingual communication. The current research intends to address this shortfall by providing a detailed analysis of codeswitching in WhatsApp group chats, exploring its implications for identity construction and communication efficiency, and assessing its role in the evolution of Nigerian digital discourse (Afolabi, 2023).
